The Tale of Dr. Siggi Wilzig, CX404, and the Wasteland Chronicles

In the shadowy corridors of an Enclave research facility, Dr. Siggi Wilzig, a dedicated and conflicted scientist, conducted behavior experiments on dogs, a part of the Enclave’s relentless pursuit of perfection and control. Among the many subjects was a small, fragile puppy designated CX404. When the puppy failed a routine weight test, its fate was to be incinerated like so many before it. But Wilzig, moved by a rare moment of compassion, intervened. He saved CX404 from its grim destiny, sparing it from further experimentation and raising it in secret within the facility’s cold walls.

As Wilzig continued his clandestine care of CX404, he also pursued a mysterious and dangerous project—a glowing pill, developed through unknown means. One day, he injected the pill into his own neck, beginning a transformation that would soon attract the wrong kind of attention. When another Enclave scientist stumbled upon CX404 in Wilzig’s lab, alarm bells rang. The confrontation escalated quickly, and in the ensuing struggle, CX404, now fiercely loyal to Wilzig, attacked and killed the intruder. The incident left Wilzig and CX404 with no choice but to flee the facility, plunging them into the unforgiving Wasteland.

As fate would have it, Lucy, a young woman from Vault 33, was exploring the coastal ruins near her Vault when she came across a tragic scene—a family who had succumbed to Vault-Tec’s infamous ‘Plan D’ suicide poison. That night, as she sheltered in the ruins, her firelight attracted the attention of Wilzig and CX404. Wilzig, wary of the dangers lurking in the Wasteland, advised Lucy to return to the safety of Vault 33, warning her of the harsh realities she would face if she chose to stay above ground.

Undeterred, Lucy continued her search for information about her father, who had been kidnapped by raiders. She was directed to the nearby settlement of Filly, where she hoped to find clues to his whereabouts. Meanwhile, Wilzig, weary from the journey, stopped at a hazardous waste dumping site, only to be disturbed by the sight of human remains scattered among the debris. He quickly moved on, sensing that danger was close behind.

At the same time, Maximus, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, was on a mission to track down Wilzig. Traveling with the arrogant and reckless Knight Titus, Maximus found himself at odds with his superior’s methods. When their search led them to the same waste site Wilzig had visited, they were ambushed by a ferocious Yao Guai bear. In the chaos, Titus fled, only to be savagely mauled by the beast. Maximus managed to kill the bear but refused to save Titus, allowing him to die and taking his T-60 Power Armor as his own.

Lucy’s quest led her to Filly, where she encountered Ma June, a shopkeeper with a deep-seated resentment towards Vault dwellers. Lucy inquired about Lee Moldaver, the raider leader responsible for her father’s abduction. Ma June advised her to return to her Vault, but Lucy pressed on. Soon after, Wilzig and CX404 arrived in Filly, seeking Ma June’s counsel. Wilzig, with his intimate knowledge of Vault 33’s design, once again urged Lucy to turn back. But before they could delve deeper into their discussion, a bounty hunter known as the Ghoul arrived, intent on claiming the reward for Wilzig’s capture.

A brutal firefight erupted, leaving Wilzig gravely injured and CX404 wounded while defending its master. Lucy tried to intervene, but the Ghoul quickly overpowered her. Just as it seemed Lucy’s journey would end in tragedy, Maximus, now equipped with the formidable T-60 Power Armor, arrived and engaged the Ghoul in combat. However, Maximus, inexperienced with the armor’s capabilities, found himself outmatched and accidentally triggered the suit’s thrusters, launching himself out of the town.

With Wilzig on the brink of death, Ma June revealed that Moldaver had paid her to deliver Wilzig to him. In a desperate plea, Wilzig instructed Lucy to take him to Moldaver, promising that his knowledge would help her find her father. But as they neared their destination, Wilzig, weakened and aware that he was running out of time, confessed to Lucy that he had taken a Vault-Tec ‘Plan D’ suicide pill. He made a final request—for Lucy to remove his head and deliver it to Moldaver, assuring her that it would “change the future.”

With a heavy heart, Lucy fulfilled his last wish, knowing that in this desolate world, every choice could shape the fate of the Wasteland. As she continued her journey, now carrying Wilzig’s head and the weight of his cryptic promise, the Wasteland’s harsh reality began to take its toll, and Lucy’s determination grew, fueled by the hope that she might yet save her father and uncover the secrets that could alter the course of history.
